What is Brain tumor surgery?

The brain tumor surgery is the removal of the tumor and some surrounding healthy tissue during an operation. The surgery is conducted by neurosurgeons to remove the tumor and is believed to improve the neurological symptoms, provide tissues for diagnosis and improve the prognosis of a person with a brain tumor. They could occur at any age and the exact cause of brain tumor is not at all clear. The symptoms of the brain tumor depend upon their size type and location.

Classification The brain tumors can be benign or malignant brain tumor.

Benign tumor The benign tumor can be easily removed and generally there is no re growth. The benign tumors do not spread into other parts of the body. They may become life threatening or may become malignant also.

Malignant tumor Malignant brain tumors contain cancer cells and grow rapidly. They may also invade the nearby brain tissues or may spread to the spinal cord area.
