Skull base surgery could be defined as a set of surgical procedures performed to treat various conditions that affect the base of the skull. This type of surgery is very challenging as it deals with complex cases and lesions that lie in close proximity to vital neurologic structures. The surgery is mainly done to evaluate the treatment of benign and malignant tumors, vascular disorders like aneurysm and malformation, congenital disorders and other diseases affecting the skull base. Our skull base surgery most often involves a team of specialists, including ear, nose and throat surgeons, neurosurgeons and radiologists. The skull base surgery is either performed the traditional open way or through a newer endoscopic process.

Traditional or open skull base surgery.

The surgery might require incisions in the facial area and in the skull. The parts of bone may need to be removed so that the growth can be reached and removed. An operating room microscope is often used for this type of surgery.

Newer endoscopic process

The surgery does not require large incision. We are a pioneer and have excellence in use of transoral robotic surgery, 3D navigation plans, intraoperative neuro physiological planning, 3D navigation planning in order to provide the patients with the best quality treatment possible.

Some of the skull base surgery includes treating common disorder like

  • Meningioma
  • Cavernoma
  • Chondrosarcoma
  • Acoustic neuroma
  • Brain stem tumors

The skull based surgery is generally carried out is to remove as much of the lesion or mass as possible, with minimal morbidity. The treatment mainly depends upon the location of the tumor and involves procedure such a craniotomy or an endoscopic approach.
